Budaschnozzle Removal & Replacement For the Lulzbot TAZ 4 3D Printer == Required Tools & Supplies == *2.5mm and 3mm Allen wrenches (from Lulzbot toolkit) *Parts dish (empty) == Removal == #Remove filament by heating hot end to filament temperature, retracting 10-20mm of filament, releasing the idler assembly, then removing the filament by hand, pulling upward. Place the PTFE sleeve end out of the way. #Cool to below 85 F/30 C. #Turn off the TAZ 4. #Disconnect the extruder assembly electrical cords, by detaching the Budaschnozzle cable (four wires: two orange, two red), the extruder stepper motor (four wires: black, green, white/blue, red), and fan (two wires: black and red). #Remove the extruder from the Y-axis assembly, by loosening and removing the retaining bolt (using a 2.5mm Allen wrench from the TAZ Toolkit), and sliding the assembly up. Put the retaining bolt and washer in a part dish for later use. #On a separate table, remove the fan (using a 2.5mm Allen wrench from the TAZ Toolkit) to facilitate the next steps. Place the two screws and washers in the part dish, along with the fan. #Remove the larger bolts (using a 3mm Allen wrench from the TAZ Toolkit), placing them in parts dish. #Remove filament stepper motor/gear assembly. #Remove Budaschnozzle. ==Replacement== #Ensure that the wiring for the Budaschnozzle is not wrapped around the assembly. Arrange it to go up vertically. #Place the Budaschnozzle on the extruder assembly back plate, ensuring that the Budaschnozzle wire is facing you and not caught between the Budaschnozzle and the assembly back plate. #Place the 2 large bolts in place from underneath the extruder assembly back plate. Hold those in place with one hand, and with the other hand, place the filament motor/gear assembly, aligning the holes with the bolts. You may have to jiggle the filament motor/gear assembly to get the bolts to line up, initially or during tightening. #Carefully tighten the bolts using the 3mm Allen wrench; be careful to start the bolt in the thread of the nut with gentle pressure, as it is possible to push too hard, causing the bolt to fall out of the filament motor/gear assembly. #Affix the fan to the filament motor/gear assembly using 2 small bolts and washers, tightening with the 2.5mm Allen wrench. #Attach the completed extruder assembly to the Y-axis assembly by sliding the wide-V shaped bottom of the extruder assembly into the similarly-shaped receiving slot, ensuring it is seated all the way down (apply gentle pressure). Insert the remaining bolt and tighten using 2.5mm Allen wrench. (Suggestion: first put the bolt in the extruder assembly, holding in place with the Allen wrench, and then seat the extruder assembly into the receiving slot; then tighten the bolt.) #Re-attach electronic connections, ensuring proper orientation and mating of connectors: #*The Budaschnozzle cable (four wires: two orange, two red) #*The extruder stepper motor (four wires: black, green, white/blue, red) #*The fan (two wires: black and red). #Reload filament by inserting filament through the top of the extruder assembly and pushing down as far as possible; approximately 3 inches/75mm of filament can be pushed in after initial entry into the aluminum plate of the Budaschnozzle before the filament end “hits bottom” at the actual nozzle. (Note: if a bulb of filament makes this difficult, snip off some filament with scissors at the point where the filament is the proper diameter.) #Re-latch the idler assembly by raising the screw assembly, pushing the idler plate flush with the filament and hobbed bolt assembly, then slipping the screw assembly down over the idler plate. (Note: it might be necessary to loosen the screw assembly, but then re-tighten.)
